Open a terminal and switch to root user.

sudo su


crontab -e

Choose your favorite console editor and remove all the lines there. Then write the following line which will store the date on the file /tmp/test.txt every minute.

*/1 * * * * date >> /tmp/test.txt

Save changes.

After one minute the file in /tmp/test.txt should contain the latest date.

tailf /tmp/test.txt
